First impressions: Kose Sekkisei Medicated Cream

Some purchases I spend ages deliberating over and some I just pick up randomly, on a whim or because of a recommendation. I think Sekkisei was a recc from AB Muse and it was a great choice for me. This is a truly delightful product, fragrance aside, and could be the ideal day moisturiser, although it seems like it may break me out.  I say may break me out because it could be user error.  Cost $3ish for 6g, mini pots from TK. Although I'm pretty sure it's out of stock now.  Packaging It's a jar, my least favourite cream packaging but what can you do. A jar is probably the best packaging for a cream, given you can be sure you've used it to the last drop, although a squeeze tube is just easier in my opinion. Pretty much everything comes in jars and a squeeze tube for a gel cream is probably madness because how would you consistently squeeze out the right amount and also I often don't pay attention to how much I'm squeezing, resulting in using too much. My face do...

Categorising cream textures and texture reviews

This is a meandering post on face creams, it's not a review as such but some general comparisons of beautiful creams - mostly about textures. (If anyone wants swatches, please comment. I personally don't find them that helpful but the real reason I haven't done them is that I'll never actually get this post up otherwise! I may be going largely photo-free in future because it's even more time-consuming than the writing...) I'm slightly obsessed with categorising products as I like a framework that I can slot creams into because it refines my thinking about products.  I find it helpful to think about how textures compare as it narrows down what I'm looking for and gives me something a bit more defined to work with when I'm making comparisons for people. Naturally, my categories are a personal shorthand and if you have thoughts on how to name these, let me know! Some of these creams may straddle more than one category so I've gone with the predominant f...

Can (some) moisturisers be a first step?

Image
Decorte Phytotune Refining Softener and Decorte Liposome Advanced Repair serum on a black silky background It's been a busy few months what with getting a new job but I'm hoping to get back to posting more regularly :) Note for this post: it might be a dry skin thing but if you have dry skin, the reasoning behind this post could make some sense. I'm not sure this would have worked this well when I had combination skin in a more humid environment with soft water. However, it would have really helped whenever I had a less than perfect barrier. What prompted this post I recently bought the beautiful and discontinued Decorte Phytotune Refining Softener from Decorte's UK online store.  It was half price so I should have been suspicious...  The usage instructions say to use it first. Right after cleansing! It's basically an emulsion - this does not make sense to me and it started an interesting experiment.  Someone told me that this kind of product as a first step isn...

Sooryehan Bon Firming cream follow-up and routine thoughts

Image
Empty Sooryehan Bon Firming cream jar with white squashy cute Kitty lamp Introduction to the follow-up  I've panned my first jar of this (I obviously have a back-up) so I thought I'd do a follow-up post.  Absolutely a non-negotiable product! I sometimes use other things, really only Illiyoon ATO Ceramide Concentrate cream, but I don't like it as much! It feels oilier, like it doesn't dry as well.  There's nothing wrong with the Illiyoon, I have just come to find that I really miss the cosmetic elegance of more premium products. Plus, ginseng! Highlights from the first impressions review & updates  Link to first impressions review Texture there's an elasticity to the cream, it is exactly the way meringue forms peaks. Have a google if you don't know what I mean by this - I found a picture that compares different meringue textures - the Sooryehan is perhaps between firm and stiff peaks.   Yes: this cream is Michelin starred meringue Agree!   Per...

Facetheory Glycomide Body Cream B1: First Impressions

Image
Facetheory Glycomide Body Cream B1 jar (Slightly Clickbaity) Headline This cream is a bit weird but definitely effective About my body skin I haven't had this diagnosed but I'm almost completely certain that the bumps on my arms (and legs but we'll ignore that for now) are KP - keratosis pillaris. Even if it's not KP, the pores are blocked and form little bumps like closed comedones. I started noticing it about 5-10 years ago and it just gets worse as I age! Booooo. Even if I didn't mind the appearance, they're dry and itchy so I need to treat it or I'll scratch. They already leave pigment behind regardless of whether I scratch them. 10% urea is softening and moisturising, no more dry bits, but it doesn't get rid of the bumps or pigment. So I'm adding a 9% glycolic acid body cream. Cost of the Facetheory Glycomide Body Cream B1  £15 for 170ml  Introduction I've tried a few Facetheory products and haven't liked any of them. One didn'...

Sooryehan Bon Firming Cream - First Impressions

Image
Another best-in-class product from Sooryehan. The one cream to rule them all!   About my skin I used to stick to more affordable products and use a lot of different products to address features like signs of aging, larger pores and CCs, redness and dull skin. This usage of a large quantity of more affordable products might be changing because of trying Sooryehan!  I'm going to call these things I'm addressing "features" rather than "concerns", which is just a personal preference. My skin doesn't need fixing, I just tailor my routine to address certain aspects of it. This may seem a pedantic choice of words but language matters!  I'm 40 with combination skin, prone to CCs but not acne (unless I've used a product that disagrees with me) and my skin is perpetually dehydrated because of the actives I use. My neck is dry, dry as a desert, and very sensitive, so I use an entirely different routine that would be too bland for my face - plus, my neck rou...
