(Micro) First Impressions: Whoo Hwanyu Imperial Youth Contour Eye Cream

You can find all the info about this on Odile's site: https://themonodist.com/the-history-of-whoo-hwanyu-imperial-youth-contour-eye-cream/ For me, this might be the One Eye Cream To Rule Them All. I have, admittedly, not used very much of this, one 0.6ml blister but a little went a long way. Granted, that probably sounds ridiculous but not only is the texture perfect for me, it seems to have delivered visible benefits in the time I've been using it. Here's my previous eye-area product discussion-review: https://commercialpoemferments.blogspot.com/2024/10/the-sleep-crease-saga-continued.html Background I didn't actually order the Hwanyu, I'd ordered samples of the Hera Signia Core Lifting Serum that Odile recommended to me on the sub when I asked for a serum on the Alter Daily Help Thread that wasn't an LG product. The Hera went out of stock so StyleJolly sent me a load of other samples to make up for not being able to supply it. It was a huge amount of sample...

Categorising cream textures and texture reviews

This is a meandering post on face creams, it's not a review as such but some general comparisons of beautiful creams - mostly about textures. (If anyone wants swatches, please comment. I personally don't find them that helpful but the real reason I haven't done them is that I'll never actually get this post up otherwise! I may be going largely photo-free in future because it's even more time-consuming than the writing...) I'm slightly obsessed with categorising products as I like a framework that I can slot creams into because it refines my thinking about products.  I find it helpful to think about how textures compare as it narrows down what I'm looking for and gives me something a bit more defined to work with when I'm making comparisons for people. Naturally, my categories are a personal shorthand and if you have thoughts on how to name these, let me know! Some of these creams may straddle more than one category so I've gone with the predominant f...

Sooryehan Hyobidam Fermented Emulsion

Image
Little bottles of the Sooryehan Hyobidam Fermented Emulsion in a plastic package, on a cute potato cushion. Not my finest photography but too cute not to use Introduction  So, I've obviously written at length about my love for the Sooryehan Bon Firming cream. Several times now! Link to the Bon Firming cream first impressions post Link to follow up post on the Bon Firming cream And I'd tried an emulsion before, I thought it was fine as a first moisturiser for my neck but I didn't think it had any dramatic benefits.  The problem is that my neck is a tricky beast - very little seems to please it beyond. So I try not to judge neck products on efficacy, just on whether they irritate me. Woe is my neck is not what I came here to write about... This Sooryehan emulsion is very well formulated and a decent emulsion that now has permanent slot in my routine as my AM summer cream.  Or at least it did, until the hard water affected my skin and now I need much more moisturising produ...

Sooryehan Ginseng First Essence update

Image
Gold Sooryehan Ginseng First Essence bottle and box (also gold) on a rich blue background  Here's the link to the original post Highlights from the first review The packaging, texture and ingredients were far in advance of things I'd used before - at the time . It's a serum texture rather than the watery texture I'd associated with first essences. I am a total sucker for this kind of texture now . I had thought the fragrance was noticeable but now I am accustomed to fragranced products, I'd describe it as light !  I stand by my previous comments that this product is luxe but I've tried many more luxe products since and so my frame of reference is a little different now. I'd put this as entry level, with, however, a caveat which I'll come back to in the conclusion. This product gave me my first taste of a more effective routine, meaning that I could reduce how many products I use without losing efficacy. Even though it's not quite right for my skin n...

Whoo lip products review

Image
Whoo Lip Cerin box (the top half is rose gold and the bottom half is pearly white) Whoo Gongjinhyang Glow box (gold with a oval holographic section). Reviewed: The History of Whoo Royal Essential Golden Lip Cerin and Gongjinhyang: Mi Glow Lip Balm (SPF 10). Lip Cerin used for 3 months and Glow for 2 months at this point. I'm going to refer to these as Lip Cerin and Glow as a short hand. Lip product demands As a minimum, I want to treat rough textured dry lips. Not only is that uncomfortable but it also means lipstick doesn't apply very well and that is annoying. I'd also like to reduce the purple edges, which looks like I've been drinking red wine or using a smudgy gothy lip liner. But like most skincare things, the dry discomfort is what drew me in and lack of effective products kept the search going. And, of course, if something claims to treat the signs of aging, I'm all in. I've tried lots of lip balms in the past and at best they've treated the dryness...

Sooryehan Bon Firming cream follow-up and routine thoughts

Image
Empty Sooryehan Bon Firming cream jar with white squashy cute Kitty lamp Introduction to the follow-up  I've panned my first jar of this (I obviously have a back-up) so I thought I'd do a follow-up post.  Absolutely a non-negotiable product! I sometimes use other things, really only Illiyoon ATO Ceramide Concentrate cream, but I don't like it as much! It feels oilier, like it doesn't dry as well.  There's nothing wrong with the Illiyoon, I have just come to find that I really miss the cosmetic elegance of more premium products. Plus, ginseng! Highlights from the first impressions review & updates  Link to first impressions review Texture there's an elasticity to the cream, it is exactly the way meringue forms peaks. Have a google if you don't know what I mean by this - I found a picture that compares different meringue textures - the Sooryehan is perhaps between firm and stiff peaks.   Yes: this cream is Michelin starred meringue Agree!   Per...

Sooryehan Chunsam Golden cleansing foam

Image
Sooryehan Chunsam Golden cleansing foam written in gold ink with a pink/blue sheen My drawing of the Sooryehan cleanser, because I like to draw. If you want to check out the original, link to Sooryehan's website is below   Link to Sooryehan's website so you can see the cleanser tube. I haven't taken a picture of the tube as all my photo stuff is packed away About my skin I used to stick to more affordable products and use a lot of different products to address features like signs of aging, larger pores and CCs, redness and dull skin. I'm going to call these things I'm addressing "features" rather than "concerns", which is just a personal preference. My skin doesn't need fixing, I just tailor my routine to address certain aspects of it. This may seem a pedantic choice of words but language matters!   I'm 40 with combination skin, prone to CCs but not acne (unless I've used a product that disagrees with me) and my skin is perpetually...
